Our Newest Edition

Perhaps it's because I've been overly sad about not having another baby lately or because it was my birthday but we (mostly me :D) decided to get a puppy!! After a lot of deliberation, we decided that our next dog would need to meet the following criteria:

• Kid Friendly
• Smart
• Hearty
• Smart
• Did I mention smart?

After a lot of research (well maybe not a lot as I am a bit jaded. Damn you veterinary community!) I decided I wanted an Australian Cattle Dog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Cattle_Dog). I found a breeder (http://saddletrampredheelers.com/) and found our puppy!

We have named him "Zander." We went with that name because our other dog's name is "Calliope" which is a Greek name, so we continued the theme. He is already crate trained (he's only been in our house 6 nights) and is THIS CLOSE to being house trained! He has mastered the "sit" command and the "down" command."

Calli and Zander love each other! I really think 2 dogs are much easier than 1! She is a big help. She shows him what the "right" things are to do. Since she doesn't potty in the house, it helps keep him from doing it. She is crate trained so it helps him to see that the crate isn't a horrible place to be.
